MISO IN MALMÖ – JAPANESE-INSPIRED LUNCH AT REASONABLE PRICES
When summer arrives in Copenhagen and southern Sweden, Malmö, Sweden’s third-largest city, is one of the places I frequently return to. One of my favourite lunch spots in the city is the Japanese-inspired restaurant Miso. The balance between price and quality is good, and compared to Copenhagen, prices in Sweden are generally more favourable – not least due to exchange rates.
Miso is located on the large yet cosy Gustav Adolfs Torg, where several other restaurants also offer decent meals at reasonable prices. Outside, Miso has a number of tables with a view over the square, where people pass by, and the atmosphere from the neighbouring restaurants adds to the lively yet relaxed setting.

THE FOOD
The sushi is fresh and well-prepared, with evident attention to presentation. The wasabi is not authentic – it is the more common wasabi cream, likely the budget-friendly version, but at this price level, one cannot expect more. The soy sauce is a standard version that serves its purpose. The dumplings, on the other hand, are a pleasant surprise – crispy and delicious, with a well-balanced filling-to-dough ratio.
The soup, which is included in the lunch menu free of charge, is not particularly impressive. It has a slight aftertaste that I am not too fond of, and it lacks any vegetables or other ingredients.
A vibrant sushi platter with nigiri, maki rolls, and fresh garnishes, served alongside crispy dumplings with a sweet chili dipping sauce. Paired with a refreshing draught beer at Miso in Malmö.
THE BEER
The beer is a classic pilsner, which pairs well with the meal. It is an uncomplicated, easy-to-drink beer that suits my taste – skål!

THE ATMOSPHERE
Inside, Miso has a modern yet cosy interior with dim lighting and details inspired by Japanese aesthetics. Large windows provide good natural light, while red panels and green plants add a pleasant touch to the space. The restaurant strikes a good balance between a relaxed café and a stylish dining experience. The service is not super fast, but it is friendly.
Miso also has a branch in Växjö, which I have yet to visit. However, the combination of good Japanese-inspired food at reasonable prices and the vibrant summer atmosphere of Gustav Adolfs Torg is what keeps bringing me back to this restaurant whenever I am in Malmö.
